A Waterfield & Sons are a long established family run firm and have been contractors in East Anglia for many years. The company specialises in road reinstatements in asphalt and concrete, hot bitumen spraying, constructing and repairing farm roads and drives, brick weave paving, road construction and kerb laying.

The building division carries out new works, renovations and repairs to commercial and farm buildings to a high specification.

Before doing his National Service, company founder Arthur Waterfield had driven a crawler-fitted Caterpillar on ploughing work. He'd lodged at a house in Diss (where he met his wife-to-be Caroline) but on leaving the Army in 1949 he came back to Diss and used his gratuity to buy an old Morris Cowley. A strange vehicle to go into haulage with, but Arthur bought a small trailer and began buying and selling sacks and bags.

Expanding into haulage, Arthur was operating 14 artics in the mid-'70's. From Bedford's to AECs and Fodens, Waterfield also ran a batch of 10 M-reg F86 Volvos.

When Arthur's two sons, Roy and Peter took over the running of the business, they came out of road haulage and diversified into the contract work.
